Stand Up Paddle

So we just received a new shipment of Ocean Kayak Stand Up Paddle Boards (SUP). The Nalu. These are going to fill a great big hole in the market because the are very reasonably priced. Only $689 which includes a 3 piece paddle. The paddle has a "T" handle which can be replaced with a paddle blade turning the SU paddle into a kayak paddle. This allows you to sit down and paddle in case you get caught in a head wind. http://www.deepcoveoutdoors.com/kayakshop/products.php?productID=755

Many people are interested in SUP but when they see the price of a high quality surf style board ($1600) they get turned off. I had the chance to paddle the Nalu SUP last fall and it was great. It had great stability and really good speed. As the sport is still evolving I think there will be some bit changes in boats design and I think Ocean Kayak is going in the right direction. Most SUP boards are surf style and most people paddle them on flat water, which really doesn't make a lot of sense. At our rental facility I see many people taking our rental boards which are Starboard 12' surfing style boards. The usually paddle to the middle of the cove and splash around a bit. Because the Nalu has a displacement style hull it cuts through the water better and you can actually travel at a faster pace making it easier to paddle to, let's say, Jug Island.

This year in our rental fleet will have 1 Starboard K15 SUP. This board is where I think SUP will go. Longer and narrower.
